MEMPHS, Tenn. -- The Lady Majors were able to snap a 4-game losing streak on the first day of the SCAC crossover meeting. The Lady Majors moved past University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff by a score of 9-1. In their second game of the day, Millsaps shut out Sewanee 10-0. The Lady Majors were not given credit for a conference win in the contest – Millsaps and Sewanee compete in different SCAC divisions. The two wins put the fastpitch team back on track to a winning season.
In the Sewanee game, the Lady Majors looked to pick up a SCAC win. Striking early and often, Millsaps took the win in five innings. Beginning their scoring route in the opening inning, the Lady Majors got three hits off of Sewanee’s Lady Tigers and scored two runs as Christina Sharp was batted in off of a Josie Manley RBI single. Manley later scored off of a Victoria Gibson RBI.
The second inning saw the Lady Majors earn three more runs followed by five more in the third. Sharp, Helen Loring, Josie Manley and Erica Douglass all had two runs in the game. Gibson and Kacey Quinn also added one run a piece. Millsaps won the game easily by a score of 10-0.
Millsaps got another easy win against the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. The game remained scoreless until the third inning when the Lady Majors got their scoring drive going, gaining three runs in the inning. Jessica Clincy scored off of a Manley RBI single. Sharp scored off of a Tiffany Ladiner RBI double, and Manley scored off of a wild pitch. Arkansas retaliated in the bottom of the third, but they could only manage one run.
Millsaps took advantage of their offensive inability and added four runs in the fourth along with one run in the fifth and one in the sixth, giving the Lady Majors the 9-1 victory. |
