Wildcats ranked 7th nationally before loss

The Louisiana College Wildcats (9-1) softball team split with the Millsaps Lady Majors (6-8, 0-0) in Jackson Tuesday. The Majors won game one 2-1 and the Wilcats took game two 6-0.

Wildcat starter Sandi Clark went the distance in game one allowing both runs on four hits, striking out six Majors batters while taking the loss. Kati Fleming, the winner in game one, went seven innings, giving up five hits, one run, while striking out five Wildcat hitters.

Majors first baseman Amanda Stevens hit a homerun in the third inning off Clark. Fleming drove in Renee Green, who had doubled, when she singled to right field off Clark.

The Wildcats scored their only run in the sixth inning when Clark singled and pinch runner Michelle Roque scored on an error.

Wildcats starter Emillie Collins threw a one-hit shutout in a 6-0 win game two. Collins also went 2-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Collins’ final line shows a complete game one-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks.

The Wildcats got to Majors starter Kati Fleming for four runs before Tammy Ladner replaced her in the fourth inning.

The Majors only hit came in the first inning when Naffie Mooney singled to center field. Mooney would advance on a wild pitch, but would be stranded at second base.
