Lady Majors Split a Friday Double Header

 

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College Lady Majors faced off against Mississippi College’s Lady Choctaws on Fri., Feb. 24. The Lady Majors,who have struggled throughout the season, took the first game but fell short in the afternoon’s second match-up.

The first game of the double header featured spurts of offense for both teams. Millsaps opened the game by taking an early lead as Christina Sharp scored off of a Josie Manley RBI after being hit by a pitch. Mississippi College answered the Lady Majors with two runs of their own in the second. Millsaps tied the game in the third however as Sharp scored off of Manley’s second RBI of the day. At the end of the third, the score was tied at 2 runs a piece.

The score remained tied until the fifth inning when Mississippi College scored an additional run. They scored again in the ninth. Millsaps was never able to answer, eventually losing the game 4-2.

In game two, Millsaps jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning. The Lady Majors were helped by pitching errors as Christina Sharp was hit by a pitch in her first at bat. After a Helen Loring bunt, Sharp advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sharp eventually scored along with Loring who advanced on a Kacey Quinn RBI. At the end of the first inning, Millsaps led 2-0.

Mississippi College answered Millsaps’ call to action scoring one run in the second inning as Alisha Farrish homered in the opening at bat. With that run, an inning and a half into the game, the scoring for the entire contest was completed. Millsaps and MC struggled offensively throughout the remainder of the match-up, and Millsaps won 2-1.

The Lady Majors’ win and loss brings their record to 3-6 for the season
