MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lady Majors took on the Rhodes Lynx in the first installment of a four game series this past weekend in Memphis. Millsaps bounced back from a double header loss to cross-town rival Belhaven College and beat the Lynx on their home field by final scores of 8-3 and 10-1, respectively. The wins brings the season record for Millsaps to 10-21, 4-6.
In Saturday’s first game, Millsaps struck early putting up a run in the first inning. An RBI single by second basemen Christina Sharp scored Tiffany Ladnier from third. Rhodes answered back in the bottom of the second with a run of their own.
The score stayed knotted at one until the Lady Majors broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Millsaps scored three runs on 3 hits in the top of the fourth. Catcher Josie Manley and third basemen Renee Green both reached on base hits and eventually scored on fielding errors by Rhodes. A Tiffany Ladnier RBI scored Erica Douglas for the third run of the inning.
The Lady Majors tacked on two more runs in the fifth and an additional two more runs in the seventh.
Erica Douglas threw seven innings today and gave up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and zero walks.
Christina Sharp was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI’s.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Majors found even more offensive firepower putting up 10 runs in 6 innings of play.
After the first inning the score was tied at one run each. The Lady Majors were able to bring across the difference maker in the fourth when Ivy Settlemires drove in Jessica Clincy from second base.
The Lady Majors then began to pull away in the top of the fifth inning, posting six runs on the scoreboard. Helen Loring scored on a Josie Manley RBI single to begin the Millsaps rally. After two quick fly outs, Jessica Clincy hit an RBI single followed by a Kylie Kurtz single, and a 2 RBI double from Ivy Settlemires.
The Lady Majors put two more runs in the sixth innings ending the need to play the seventh inning.
Erica Douglas gave up one run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Ivy Settlemires was 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBI’s.
