Offense, Pitching Fuel Lady Majors Wins

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lady Majors completed a four game sweep of the Rhodes Lynx this Sunday in Memphis taking both games of a double header for the second time in a weekend. The Lady Majors improve their record to 12-21, 6-6.  The four conference wins this weekend put the Lady Majors in second place in the Western Division and in the process clinched a SCAC Tournament playoff berth.

In the first game on Sunday, the Lady Majors got things started quickly with four runs in the first inning.  A Christina Sharp RBI single that scored Tiffany Ladnier started the ball rolling for the Majors. Pitcher Erica Douglas followed with a 2 RBI single driving in Green and Sharp. Rhodes answered with two runs of their own.

In the top of the second, the Lady Majors poured it on again scoring four more runs. Christina Sharp drove in Ivy Settlemires with a bases loaded RBI single. Josie Manley singled and drove in Tiffany Ladnier. Erica Douglas reached first base on an error, but managed to drive in a run. Before the inning ended, Jessica Clincy hit a sacrifice fly that brought across another run.

The Lady Majors put up two more runs in the fifth inning placing the game out of reach.

Erica Douglas earned the win giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking four.

Ivy Settlemires was 4 for 4 at the plate and scored two runs. Christina Sharp was 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.

The second game of the day was a completely dominating performance from the Lady Majors. Pitcher Erica Douglas threw a six hit shutout while at the plate the Lady Majors combined for 17 hits and nine runs.

To begin the game, Christina Sharp reached base on a double and eventually scored on a Josie Manley RBI double. Sharp’s run proved to be the difference maker as Rhodes was unable to cross home plate for the whole game.

The Lady Majors offense exploded in the sixth inning as Millsaps put up six runs on five hits. Center fielder Helen Loring smacked an RBI single, followed by a Christina Sharp RBI single. Kacey Quinn drove in two runs herself on a single, but was thrown at second base to end the inning. Quinn’s out ended the inning, but not before two more runs came across the plate.

Erica Douglas gave up zero runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Christina Sharp was 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 runs batted in.

The Lady Majors will take on Mississippi College on Thursday, April 13 at 4:00 Clinton, Miss.
