Sewanee, Tenn. — The Millsaps Lady Majors were defeated in the first round of the SCAC Softball Tournament by Rose-Hulman University. The Lady Majors fell by a score of 9-7.
Headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, Millsaps trailed Rose-Hulman 9-3. Needing six runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Majors began to rally. A Jessica Clincy RBI triple stated the no out rally. Clincy eventually scored on an error by the Rose-Hulman right fielder. A 2 RBI double from catcher Renee Green two batters narrowed the score to 9-7.
However, the late rally by the Lady Majors fell two runs short when pitcher Erica Douglas popped up to end the inning and the game.
In the circle for the Majors, Douglas pitched seven innings giving up nine runs (seven earned) on 15 hits. Douglas managed to strike out one batter in the process.
Catcher Renee Green was 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI’s. Third basemen Josie Manley was 2 for 4 with one RBI.
The loss today does not eliminate Millsaps from the SCAC Tournament. The Lady Majors play again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and still have a chance to advance further in the tournament.
