The Millsaps Majors took
game one from Division leader Trinity University 7-6 behind homeruns
from Crystal Bender and Victoria Gibson, but four errors cost the
Majors the lead in game two, losing 8-3.
Amanda Stevens had three
RBIs for the Majors in game one and the Majors were leading
7-3 entering the fifth inning. Trinity's Mandy Chastang doubled
to score the second run of the inning for the Majors and another
run scored on Kristen Yurasits single, but the Tigers could not
tie the game as Majors starter Kati Fleming retired three of four
batters in the seventh to seal the win for the Majors.
Fleming tossed a complete
game eight-hitter. She allowed four earned runs walked three and
strucj out one. Josie Manley went 2-3 and scored twice and Fleming
went 1-2 with an RBI.
Game two
The Tigers jumped out
to an early 1-0 lead on Chastang's RBI single to centerfield, but
were held scoreless until the fourth inning. Renee Green RBI triple
in the bottom half of the first inning tied the game up at 1-1.
The Tigers picked up
arun in the fourth on an error, but the Majors would get two when
the Tigers leftfielder misplayed a ground ball that rolled to the
fence.
In the fifth inning the Tigers would retake the lead 4-3 scoring
two runners on two singles and a double. Then in the sixth inning
the Tigers got three runs on a single, triple and a home run.
Bender scored once while going 1-4 and Green went 1-3 with an RBI.
Christina Sharp went 2-3 with a run scored and Stevens plated a
run in the win.
Majors starter Tammy Ladner went the distance allowing four earned
runs walking one and striking out three.
