JACKSON, Miss . -- The Millsaps College Lady Majors dropped both games of a double header to William Carey College on Wednesday, March 22. William Carey won 5-1 and 7-0, respectively. The losses bring the Lady Majors win-loss total 6-13 for the season.
In the first contest of the day Millsaps took the early lead, jumping out 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Christina Sharp hit a lead-off triple to right field to open offensively for the Majors. Sharp scored later in the inning - the only run Millsaps produced for the day. Sharp was 2-2 at the plate in the first game.
William Carey got their offense flowing in the fifth inning, when pitcher Devin King hit a grand slam to left center. Carey added an additional run in the seventh – a solo home run - to bring the score to 5-1. Kylie Kurtz took the loss on the mound for Millsaps.
In game two, the Lady Majors were not able to produce any runs over seven innings. With only four hits for the game and three errors, Millsaps allowed William Carey to dominate, scoring seven runs on pitcher Erica Douglass (6-11) in seven innings. Douglas recorded seven strikeouts and walked one batter.
Millsaps will next face Hendrix College in a four game homestand on March 25 and 26. |
