JACKSON – The
duo of Sewanee's Max Lemaigre and Tanz Kane won a tight 9-7 match
at No. 2 doubles to help the 8th-ranked Tigers sweep the doubles
points and the visitors won 4 of 6 singles matches at the top
and bottom two spots in the lineup to defeat Millsaps 7-2.
In singles action, freshman Campbell
Hughes and junior Tim Shoptaugh survived two three-set matches
to come out victorious for Millsaps, with Hughes winning 3-6,
6-3, 6-4 to improve to 5-1 overall and Shoptaugh winning 7-6,
0-6,
14-12
to improve
to 4-1 overall.
All six matches drew heavy competition
as Sewanee's Charlie Boyd edged Millsaps' Murphey Parker in straight-sets,
6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Harley Nalley outlasted Wes Hill
in a three-set thriller, 6-5, 5-7, 10-4.
Millsaps fell to 3-3 on the year while
the regionally-ranked Tigers moved to 4-1.
The Majors
will close out an 8-game homestand on Saturday, playing host
to Itawamba CC and Centenary College at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
on Coach Montgomery Courts.
