Millsaps Denied Upset of UT-Tyler
Majors fall 5-4 to regionally ranked Patriots

March 31, 2007

TYLER, Texas -- Ranked No. 15 in the West Region polls, UT-Tyler downed the visitors from Millsaps College, 5-4, after taking two of three doubles points and splitting the singles matches by a score of 3-3.

Millsaps trailed 2-1 after doubles action with the duo of Russell Turley/Alex Cummings earning the lone Majors point in a 9-8 victory.

Turley got Millsaps back in the hunt after earning a 6-2, 3-0 (ret.) win at No. 2 singles over Tripp Farmer followed by a straight-set win at No. 3 singles from Murphey Parker that gave the Majors their first lead of the match at 3-2.

Cummings [pictured] won 6-1 over Bryan Jolly in the third set at No. 1 singles to stretch the Millsaps lead to 4-2 and bring them one match away from victory.

Tim Shoptaugh, the sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., was up 5-3 over Will McDonald at No. 4 singles and was serving for match point before he was denied in a thrilling 7-5 third set loss.

Wes Hill and Trevor Harris were the final two matches for Millsaps, as the two lost in straight-sets to Tim Pedroza and Nick Kreines to close out the match.

Millsaps (7-4) will conclude its two-day road swing in Texas with a 9 a.m. match against conference foe Austin College tomorrow.
