JACKSON --
In a rescheduled match from a March 1 rainout, neighboring Division
I foe Jackson State University picked up its 13th victory of
the season by edging past the homestanding Millsaps Majors, 5-4,
at the Millsaps Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.
The Tigers won two of the three doubles points to take a quick
2-1 lead when the duo of Arturo Jimenez/Tendai Kuwaza defeated
Millsaps' Russell Turley/Alex Cummings at the No. 1 slot and
Sergio Salinas/Alejandro Martinez downed Wes Hill/Murphey Parker
at No. 2 doubles. 
The lone Majors doubles point came from Tim Shoptaugh/Trevor
Harris at the No. 3 position where they handily beat Brandon
Nelson/Ivan Walker by a score of 8-1.
Jackson
State earned a 3-3 split in singles action, using a come-from-behind
win from Salinas at No. 4 singles over Shoptaugh
[3-6, 6-1, 6-0] to break the 4-4 tie and come away with the win.
Turley, Hill
and Harris (pictured) were victorious for the
Majors in singles play at the No. 1, 4 and 6 positions, downing
Jiminez
[6-2, 7-5],
Nelson [6-2, 7-5] and Walker [6-1, 6-1] in straight sets.
With the loss, Millsaps drops to 8-6 on the season and JSU improves
to 13-5.
The Majors will be back in action Tuesday, April 10, at Parham
Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson, taking on cross-town rival
Mississippi
College in a 2 p.m. contest.
