GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The
Millsaps men's tennis team continued their fine play at the SCAC
Championships, defeating Colorado College
6-3 this afternoon
at the DePauw tennis courts to advance to the 5th place match
tomorrow against Oglethorpe University.
The Majors once again won the doubles
point by a 2-1 score, thanks in part to wins at No's 1 and 3
with Campbell Hughes/Tim Shoptaugh and Wes Hill/Murphey Parker.
Hill then gave Millsaps a 3-1 lead
in the match with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, downing
Nick Kreczko by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Chris Rolen and Trevor Harris
followed with losses and No's 4 and 6 to allow CC to knot the
score at 3-3 before Parker finally closed out his match with
a tiebreak win for a 4-3 lead that the Majors would not surrender.
Hughes continued his undefeated ways,
coming back from one set down to win 6-2 in the third set and
move the score to 5-3, while Shoptaugh finished the score with
a third set win to secure the 6-3 victory for Millsaps.
Despite what happens tomorrow in the
5th place match against OU, the Majors have improved again for
the fifth-straight season. That match will kick off at noon EST. |
