Majors Lose Fifth and Sixth Straight

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Majors traveled to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Small College Blue and Gray Classic. The Majors drew a tough first round opponent in Freed-Hardeman who was ranked #4 in the NAIA national rankings. Freed-Hardeman jumped all over the Majors, defeating them by a score of 9-0.

Russell Turley had set point and fell to Francisco Redondo ranked #9. Trevor Harris lost Brian Ly from Australia ranked #31, and Tim Shoptaugh had the match of the day playing last year’s All-American Ivan Besancon of France at the #2 position. Russell & Tim’s doubles opponents were Everton Silva of Brazil and Bruno Andrade of Brazil are #15 in the rankings and proved too experienced in their doubles match.

The Majors second match was against Abraham Baldwin – a Junior College national power ranked #6 in the JUCO rankings.  All of the Majors opponents were ranked, but were put to a strong test by our team in nighttime play. The Majors lost 7-0. This brings the season record to 7-9, 0-4.
