MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Majors lost by a score of 4-3 to Centre College to earn their third conference loss of the season. The Majors season record is now at 7-6, 0-3 in the SCAC.
Centre earned the doubles point by winning two of three from the Majors. Russell Turley and Tim Shoptaugh won at #1 with a 9-7 come-from-behind victory. Clark and Freeman upset Hill and Harris, turning the tide in the doubles matches. Vasuparum and Arnold won a close match at #2 over Jeff Newbern and Travis Scharr 8-5.
Chris Rolen tied the score at one a piece with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #6 over Dan Makela. Russell Turley gave the Majors a 2-1 lead with a 6-1,6-1 win at #1 over Dan Schmidt. Bennett Clark defeated Wes Hill who was still upset after losing his doubles match. Hill lost the match 6-1, 6-2 to even the score at 2-2. Barrett Freeman upset Trevor Harris 7-6(5), 6-2 to make the score 3-2 and bring the Majors to within one match of losing the contest.
Tim Shoptaugh evened the score at #3 with a great win at #2 over Lon Hays 6-3, 6-4. Michael Puckett, playing the best tennis of the year, forgot his winning ways and let a 5-0 lead in the final set slip away. Puckett succumbed 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3) to let the Majors first conference regular season win in four years slip away.
