JACKSON – Conference-newcomer Birmingham-Southern
dropped just seven games overall and swept all nine matches in
straight-sets to cruise past 19th regionally-ranked Millsaps on
Sunday morning at the Northeast Courthouse 9-0.
Millsaps managed to win just one game
against the heavily favored Panthers in doubles play, with the
No. 1 pair of Allison Zakaras/Beth Fossen falling 8-1 to Lauren
Russell and Kathryn Carroll and No's 2 and 3 doubles losing 8-0.
In singles play, both regionally ranked
players for BSC, No. 29 Jena Kafferly and No. 38 Janie Asseff,
won in straight-sets at No. 3 and 4 while No. 36 Zakaras for
Millsaps was knocked off 6-1, 6-1, at the top spot.
Fossen put up a fight in the first
set against Kate Lambert at No. 2 singles before falling 6-2,
6-0, while both Mimi Nguyen and Hayley Nemeth were defeated at
No's 5 and 6.
Millsaps dropped to 2-1 on the year
and BSC improved to 2-0. |
