SKILLMAN, N. J. – After a successful fall outing
in the NCAA Southern Regional Championships at Emory University
in which
the Millsaps women's tennis team won all its opening-round matches
for the first
time
in the Scott Pennington era, the Majors earned a No. 19 ranking
in the first Atlantic South Regional rankings as released by the
ITA.
Millsaps will have the chance to play five teams ranked in the
region this spring, including No. 2 Emory, No. 6 Sewanee, No. 8
Rhodes, No. 11 Christopher Newport and No. 17 Mississippi College,
to improve on its regional status.
The Top 35 singles players were also released on Tuesday, with
All-SCAC Honorable Mention and sophomore Allison Zakaras sliding
in the final spot. Zakaras had a strong freshman year, posting
a
10-5 record at the
No.
1 and
No. 2 positions.
The Majors' first event of the spring is scheduled for Feb. 8 against
Piedmont College.
