JACKSON
- In a
rematch of a Sept. 13 meeting between the two teams that spanned
four games, Millsaps put up a tough fight,
but it wasn’t enough as they fell in three close games, 25-30,
27-30 and 26-30 to Division I Alcorn State at the Hangar Dome on
Thursday night.
Millsaps (8-14, 2-7 SCAC) came out with high emotions and a little
momentum in Game 1, picking up three service aces in the first eight
points.
Through the first 19 points the game went back-and-forth, before
Alcorn went on a run to take a brief 25-19 lead.
The Majors responded right back, picking up five of the next eight
points to cut the deficit to 28-24, before the Lady Braves closed
out the game 30-25.
Games 2 and 3 were identical, with neither team holding a big lead
and constantly trading points.
The Majors fell behind 18-15 in Game 3, before rallying to win 11
of the next 16 points to take a 26-23 lead and forcing Alcorn to
use a timeout.
After the timeout it was all Lady Braves, as they scored the final
seven points to take the game 30-26 and the match 3-0.
Millsaps will play its final two home matches of the 2006 season
tonight, as they host a doubleheader with Rust College at 5 p.m.
and Wesley College at 7 p.m.
These will also be the final two home
matches for graduating seniors Colleen Kelly and Kim Fox, as they
will be recognized at the 7 p.m. match on “Senior Night.”
