Millsaps Earns Split in SCAC Central/East Divisional II
Majors secure No. 8 seed in upcoming SCAC Tournament in Sherman, Texas

October 23, 2007

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- In the final SCAC Central/East Divisional of the season this past weekend, Millsaps earned a four-game split, bouncing back to defeat Sewanee and Hendrix after losses to Centre and host DePauw to earn the No. 8 seed in the upcoming SCAC Tournament in Sherman, Texas.

Millsaps (14-20, 6-9 SCAC) received a pair of strong individual performances from senior Ani Babinski and freshman Erica Cook over the weekend, with Babinski recording 14 blocks and Cook digging 55 balls for a 4.58 digs-per-game average.

Against Centre in the tournament opener, the Lady Colonels got redemption from a hard fought 3-2 loss in the previous divisional, downing Millsaps 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-16).

Freshman Heather Keenan picked up eight of the Majors' 23 kills and freshman Hailey Miranda recorded 21 assists in the match to lead the offense while Cook's 16 digs and sophomore Dixie Krauss' nine paced the defense.

The Majors topped Sewanee 3-0 (30-26, 30-16, 30-19) in the Saturday closer to improve to 1-1 on the weekend, using freshman Kate Hall's 12 kills, a career-high seven aces, six digs and two solo blocks to sweep past the Tigers for the second time this season.

Freshman Constance Page added three solo blocks to Millsaps' match total of nine while freshman Victoria Romano tallied four aces and sophomore Amanda Cain had three.

Tournament host DePauw overpowered the Majors in their opening match on Sunday, knocking off the visitors 3-0 (30-13, 30-17, 30-20) despite a valiant effort by Millsaps.

The Majors bounced back, however, in the final match of the weekend to even their record, defeating Hendrix in a trio of close games 3-0 (30-23, 30-28, 30-25) on the heels of six blocks (three solo) by Babinski and 10 kills from Hall who had just four errors in 31 attack attempts.

Freshman Megan Dufresne added eight digs and an ace whereas freshman Mallory Clark contributed 10 digs.

Millsaps will close out the regular season this weekend at home in the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational, welcoming Dillard, Tennesse Temple and Spring Hill to town along with Reinhardt. The Majors play at 2 and 7 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.

They will then play No. 9 seed Oglethorpe at 11:30 a.m. in the upcoming SCAC Tournament in Sherman, Texas, on Nov. 2 and 3 with the winner advancing to play No. 1 seed Trinity University at 4:30 p.m.
