Finish Strong
The Millsaps volleyball team had a strong showing recently in the SCAC
Cross Divisional #2 matches, winning 3 of 5 matches, as they wrapped up
the 2003 campaign. Millsaps defeated Oglethorpe (3-1), Rose-Hulman (3-0),
and Sewanee (3-1) while losing to Depauw (3-1) and Centre (3-0). The Majors
ended the season at 11-20, 7-11 (T-6th) in the SCAC.
Coach
Peter Cosmiano's squad never quite got untracked this year despite some
strong individual performances. Senior Margaret Dykes finished off a brilliant
career and was named to the All-SCAC 2nd Team. Dykes led the Majors in
hitting percentage (.330) (7th in the SCAC), blocks (0.93 per game) (7th),
and kills (4.09 per game) (2nd). She also set the Millsaps career record
for kills with 1,794.
Renee
Green was number one in assists, averaging 10.09 per game, good enough
for 4th in the SCAC. Jennifer Wester averaged 0.38 service aces per game
to lead the team in that category. Jennifer Pujol averaged 0.85 blocks
per game to finish 9th in the league. Ashley Weber had 3.7 digs per game
to lead the Majors.
Millsaps
loses 3 seniors off this year's squad (Dykes, Wester, and Britney Mauldin).
Coach Cosmiano has been beating the bushes on the recruiting trail as
he attempts to secure quality student athletes for the upcoming season.
