Following Hurricane
Katrina, Millsaps Volleyball had to face more adversity. The Volleyball
schedule had to be reworked and start later than its competition.
Millsaps struggled in its first three matches of the season, but
rebounded this past weekend at the SCAC West Divisional Tournament.
On Friday, Millsaps
lost to nationally ranked Trinity in three straight games (9-30,
19-30, 18-30) but made some adjustments heading into their match
against Hendrix. The Majors defeated Hendrix in three straight (30-28,
30-21, 30-24) games.
With the win
over Hendrix, the Majors carried their momentum into Saturday's
match against Rhodes. Losing in three straight a week earlier did
not sit well with Coach Linebargers squad. Rhodes, well into
their season, defeated Millsaps in a hard fought five-game match
(30-28, 11-30, 20-30, 30-26, 9-15).
Without
question this weekend was our best team effort thus far, first
year head coach Linebarger said. We executed more consistently
and now we will take this and continue to grow.
This week Millsaps
Volleyball will be on the road Wednesday to play Mississippi Valley
State at 7:00 and continue their trip Thursday to Freed-Hardeman
at 6:00. The Majors will return home Saturday for a double header
against LeTourneau at 3:00 and Texas-Tyler at 7:00.
