What
courses might I take as a Chemistry major?

As a Chemistry Major, you will be required to
take a core of courses in Chemistry, physics
and mathematics; if you are planning graduate
study in the medical area, you will be encouraged
to take the recommended courses in biology.

The Chemistry curriculum at Millsaps is guided
by the recommendations of the American Chemical
Society and the department has designed its
major to meet the needs of two types of students:

Those who plan to pursue a career in a field of Chemistry
and
-
Those who need a strong background in Chemistry to pursue
a successful career in fields such as medicine, dentistry,
pharmacy, etc.

The ACS certified major is designed for the
student who wished to pursue a professional
career in Chemistry. The general Chemistry
major isdesigned for the student who wishes
to use Chemistry as a background for other career
interests such as the health professions.

The basic requirements for all majors include
General
Inorganic, Organic,and Physical Chemistry, Quantitative
Analysis, Chemical Separations, Organic
Spectral Analysis, Literature of Chemistry - Senior Seminar .
