Millsaps Commencement 2009 - Handicapped Parking

Commencement 2007We offer the following suggestions to Commencement Ceremony guests who are disabled:.

Entering Campus: The recommended entrance for disabled guests, especially those using a wheelchair, is the North Security Gate located near North State Street and Riverside Drive (see map). This entrance leads to parking near the Hall Activities Center.

Parking: Handicapped parking for those with handicapped stickers is available in the parking lot beside the Hall Activities Center. If you need to drop off a disabled guest prior to parking in another area, please tell the security officer, and he or she will assist you.

Accessibility: The Millsaps Commencement is an outdoor event held in the Millsaps Bowl in the center of campus, next to the A. Boyd Campbell College Center. The route from the Hall Activities Center parking area to the Bowl and to the College Center is fully accessible by wheelchair. The distance is 50-60 yards.

Seating: A limited number of chairs will be available in the Bowl directly in front of the A. Boyd Campbell College Center, under the shade of the Millsaps "potted oak," for those needing special assistance. Family members may sit near them, as space allows.

Outdoor Ceremony: We remind you to dress comfortably and suggest that you bring water for anyone who may not be able to move around easily. The lobby of the College Center will be open if your family member needs to move inside to the air conditioning. Please feel free to call on the student ushers for assistance.

Refreshments: Coffee, soft drinks, and water will be available for purchase at the Kava House, located in the basement level of the A. Boyd Campbell College Center from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.

Restrooms: Restrooms are available in the A. Boyd Campbell College Center and in Sullivan-Harrell Hall.

Other entrances: Handicapped parking is available at other entrances of Millsaps College. The North Security Gate located near North State Street and Riverside Drive is the recommended entrance (see map).

Rain: If the ceremony must be moved due to rain, we will be at Christ United Methodist Church at 6000 Old Canton Road (see map). The church recommends you use the south entrance. Special needs parking at the church is clearly marked. Security personnel will be on hand to assist you. The church recommends you turn your headlights on to indicate you need special assistance. A covered drive-thru is available at the south entrance for dropping off disabled guests. Estimated distance from Millsaps College to Christ United Methodist Church is 7.5 miles. Driving time can be between 12 to 25 minutes, depending upon traffic.
