The Promenade

In Core 1, students write papers designed to make them think in a variety of ways and examine different concepts about the world around them.  During the semester, students write three formal papers: an autobiographical essay, a scientific research paper, and an ethics essay.

The Promenade is a collection of some of the outstanding essays written in the different sections of Core 1.  It is published annually and distributed to all freshmen and faculty at Millsaps; catalogued copies are available at the reserve desk of the Millsaps-Wilson Library. Instructors from each Core 1 section choose selections from each of the writing assignments: autobiographical, scientific research and ethics paper.  These nominated papers are then read by teams of student judges who look for clarity of thought, quality of expression and originality.  The editing teams make the final decisions on which papers to publish.  From start to finish The Promenade is primarily a student-edited journal.
