Student Research at Millsaps

Dr. Dick R. Highfill

The research focuses primarily on comparative vertebrate reproductive physiology, and in particular the evolution of viviparity in snakes. Recent collaborative research with students has focused on the mechanical properties of uterine smooth muscle as well as the effects of oxytocin, arginine vasotocin and prostaglandin F-2 alpha on the initiation of parturition in utero and on in vitro motility of the oviduct in garter snakes.
