Move-In Day

August 25, 2007

Millsaps Parents help unload one of many vehicles as new students arrive on campus for Welcome Weekend.

We suggest that you make your reservations for the weekend as soon as you can. The Cabot Lodge-Millsaps (800-874-4737 or 601-948-8650) has a block of rooms reserved, so please mention that you are arriving for Millsaps Move-In Day. A block of rooms is also reserved at the Edison-Walthall, downtown on Capitol Street. Call 800-932-6161 or 601-948-6161 and tell them you want a room in the Millsaps move-in block. .

If you do not get a room at the Cabot, other nearby hotels are Holiday Inn Express at High Street and I-55 (800-465-4329 or 601-948-4466); the Red Roof Inn at High Street and I-55 (601-969-5006); the Edison Walthall Hotel on East Capitol (800-932-6161 or 601-948-6161); Hampton Inn on Greymont (800-426-7866 or 601-352-1700).

August 25 Move-In Schedules
8:00 a.m.: 3rd floors Franklin, Sanderson & Bacot halls
9:00 a.m.: 2nd floors Franklin, Sanderson & Bacot halls
10:00 a.m.: 1st floors Franklin, Sanderson & Bacot halls

If your student's room starts with a 1, it is on the first floor. If it starts with a 2, it's on the second floor; and if it starts with a 3, it's on the third floor.

IF YOUR SCHEDULE PREVENTS YOU FROM ARRIVING ON CAMPUS BEFORE 11 A.M., CALL THE STUDENT LIFE OFFICE (601-974-1200) TO LET THEM KNOW YOUR STUDENT WILL BE LATE CHECKING IN! THE STUDENT LIFE OFFICE WILL WORK WITH YOU TO MAKE THE MOVE-IN AS EASY AS POSSIBLE!

To avoid congestion, we ask that you unload your vehicle in the designated areas to which you will be directed. Parents Council traffic directors will be wearing bright orange vests -- they will see that you are in the best place for your residence hall unloading.

Once your vehicle is unloaded, move it to the south campus so that others may unload. The Parents Council provides "taxi service" in the form of golf carts to bring parents back to the residence halls from south campus.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., after your student is settled in, President Frances Lucas will welcome parents of new students in the Bob and Dee Leggett Center, located in the Campbell College Center, for a "come-as-you-are" gathering. We will have cooooool drinks and a few sweets ready for your enjoyment.

We look forward to meeting you on this exciting day.   Please call the Office of Parent Relations (601-974-1483) or e-mail Kay Barksdale if you have any questions or need assistance.

****Early Arrivals ****

Football players will check in with their coaches at 9 a.m. Friday, August 10. They will move into their residence halls after they are cleared with the coaches.

Foundations leaders, dance team, cheerleaders, fall athletic teams, etc., are tentatively scheduled to move in at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 18. Students may arrive any time during that time period!

**********

Follow the move-in time schedule assigned to your student. Please do not arrive early! However, if you cannot get to the campus until after 11 a.m., contact the office of Student Life (601-974-1200) for late arrival information.

MOVE-IN DAY TIPS

Label ALL boxes and large items with name, residence hall and room number. Use masking tape and markers to be sure identity is clear. Boxes can be misplaced and switched with so many coming in at one time. Labels help!
