Over
an extended summer session, the Millsaps European Business Program offers
you an opportunity to travel and study in at least three European countries,
each with its own distinctive culture and business practices. Mornings
are spent in classroom study, and in the afternoon, you'll visit international
companies. This schedule leaves weekends free for travel to destinations
in France, Austria, Ireland, and other European countries.
London
In the city, students stay in centrally-located dorms provided by the
London School of Economics and study in the John Maynard Keynes building
at Birckbeck College. Both facilities are located in the lively Bloomsbury
area of London, where intimate cafés, street entertainers, stylish
shops, and colorful markets make every stroll an adventure.
Visit Big Ben and
the Tower of London, attend church at St. Paul's Cathedral, and watch
drama and comedy unfold at theatres in the legendary West End. Break for
a lunch of pub grub at one of the many nearby eateries before going to
Wimbledon to catch a match or shopping at the famous Harrod's for English
delicacies. Bath, Dover, and Windsor Castle are short train rides from
London, and you can easily travel to Paris, Edinburgh, or Dublin for the
weekend. In addition, you'll get a chance to visit Saatchi & Saatchi
and the Bank of England, and Millsaps' personalized tour of Lloyd's of
London is one of the most extensive offered to college students.
Munich
In Munich, you'll stay at the cozy Hotel Pension Flora. This family-owned
hotel is located within easy walking distance of the main train station
and many major attractions. In
your free time, you can rent a car and drive through castle country, feast
on pretzels the size of steering wheels, and join your classmates on a
traditional pub crawl. Munich is home to incredible architecture as well
as impressive art from the medieval era to the post-modern period. Relax
in the beautiful English Garden or visit the Glockenspiel in the tower
of the New Town Hall. Popular day trips include jaunts to Berlin, Prague,
Interlaken, and Salzburg. Study
takes place at the Munchner Technologie Center, and educational field
trips include guided tours of BMW, Siemens International, and the European
Patent Office.
Florence
You'll enjoy a room at The Hotel San Giorgio, a four-star hotel in the
center of Florence that is within walking distance of most major attractions.
Students will study at the Academia Italiana, and intriguing field study
offers an up-close look at production and marketing of goods for international
consumption. Study in Italy also offers an exclusive tour of a working
vineyard and winery, as well as speakers from the fashion industry.
Florence is filled
with an abundance of medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, and
The Uffizi Gallery houses one of the greatest collections of Italian Renaissance
paintings in the world. After museums and historic sites, fine dining
and shopping are two of the major attractions of Florence. Indulge in
sumptuous meals of bruschetta, steak Florentine, and tiramisu, or simply
grab an astonishingly delicious slice of pizza and a famous gelato on
the go. If you have the extra cash, you can stock up at Florence markets,
which are filled with affordable leather goods and hand-made jewelry.
(If you're short on money, though, window-shopping is perfect for every
pocketbook.) Take a bike tour though strikingly beautiful Tuscany or soak
up the ambiance of a local trattoria. Nearby towns that make interesting
day trips are Pisa, Siena, Cortona, and Arezzo.
