Outside the Bowl

Millsaps College should seek to graduate citizens of the world. As such, we should endeavor to ensure our students are aware of and educated about matters beyond the borders of our campus. Do our students keep up with current events in our country and beyond? Perhaps the college could coordinate with news providers and push subscription news (or use free sources) to smart phones, PDAs or e-mail accounts. We could do our own Millsaps version of the NPR quiz show Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, where students compete for meaningless prizes based on who knows the most information about what is going on in our school/city/state/country/world. We can gauge how knowledgeable our students are as they arrive at Millsaps for the first time, then have them take a similar exam as they leave us to see how well we have done making them aware of the world around them.
