Tough
Choices?
Difficult Decisions?

You Need a Clearness
Committee!
What is a Clearness Committee?
There are times in our lives when we especially need insight so we can make important decisions. In the college years, the sophomore year and the senior year present big questions: what is worthy of sustained study, who can I be, where do I go, what is my calling?
A clearness committee is a group of people you choose to help you consider the big questions and listen for guidance.
From Parker Palmer:
Behind the Clearness Committee is a simple but crucial conviction: each of us has an inner teacher, a voice of truth, that offers the guidance and power we need to deal with our problems. But that inner voice is often garbled by various kinds of inward and outward interference. The function of the Clearness Committee is not to give advice or "fix" people from the outside in but rather to help people remove the interference so that they can discover their own wisdom from the inside out.

There’s
a whole lot of noise in life – endless distractions and conflicting
voices. Where is God in all of this? How can you be more aware of God’s presence?
Come to the fall retreat to hone your ability to listen for God. All are welcome. It is a one-day retreat at the Norbertine Priory in Jackson. It is especially appropriate for those considering a clearness committee.
The retreat leader is the Rev. Sherry Johnson, the Associate Director of the Center for Ministry (a joint ministry of the United Methodist Conference of MS and Millsaps College). In her ministry Sherry seeks to “strengthen leadership ability through deepening spirituality.” Prior to this work, she served as Executive Director of Bethlehem Center, a United Methodist mission agency, for nine years.
Millsaps Chaplain Rev. Lisa Garvin and Rev. Raymond Clothier of the Millsaps Faith & Work Initiative will supplement the ministry of the leader and the CALLS group.
After the Fall retreat, we will check in monthly in the Weems House:
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 6, 6:00 p.m.
I'm In!
Please respond to Raymond Clothier by e-mail or phone (601 974 1470). Thanks!
