Goodman House

Goodman House was named in honor of a former Millsaps English
teacher, Mrs. Marguerite Watkins Goodman, and her family. This residence
hall is a two-story apartment style that complex that houses seniors and
juniors who have lived on campus the previous year. Opened in 1985, the
facility comprises 16,000 square feet of living space.
Surrounded by flowering Indian hawthorne and young trees,
Goodman House is located on the south side of campus adjacent to the campus
entrance. The building's location is convenient to all other south side
dormitories and is just a few minutes' walk from most academic
buildings. Parking for Goodman is convenient,
with lots directly in front and to the side of the building.
The rooms in Goodman House are
arranged in four housing modules. A center courtyard, which features barbecue
pits, tables, and benches, offers a comfortable place for students to entertain,
relax, and socialize. Each double room contains two bedrooms, a private
bath, and a study lounge/kitchenette. All rooms have phone jacks with voice
mail capabilities, caller
identification, and call waiting. Each room also offers two internet hook
ups and basic furniture: a desk, chair, dresser, closet and bed for each
occupant.
A central laundry facility on
the ground floor also contains soda and snack machines. In addition, Goodman
Hall is one of only two dorms at Millsaps that includes a manual air conditioning
system, allowing students to control the air and heat conditions in their
rooms as they
choose. A newspaper kiosk in the open-air courtyard gives students the opportunity
to stay informed about local and national events. Since the rooms themselves
are not carpeted, students are encouraged to bring their own rugs.
