RULE I - GENERAL RULES
1. Millsaps Intramural Basketball will be played according to the 2006-2007 National Federation of State High School Basketball Rulebook (NFSH - High School). The following are highlighted rules and exceptions to the NFHS Basketball Rule Book.

2. All players must show their current valid MILLSAPS-ID. NO ID NO PLAY!!!

3. All teams, players, and spectators will be subject to current rules and regulations as stated in the Intramural Guidelines and NFSH rule book.

RULE II - TIME FACTOR AND GRACE PERIOD
1. Game Length: Games will consist of two 18 minute halves (the clock will only stop for time-outs, protests, and injuries). During the last 2 minutes of the second half only the clock will stop on all fouls, out-of-bounds, and whistles.

2. Grace period will consist of ten minutes. Any teams arriving after the ten minute grace period will receive a forfeit and a $20 fee.

3. Time Outs: Three per team per game - duration 1 minute in length. Time outs do carry over. If a team has no time-outs and calls for one, a two shot technical foul will be assessed, plus possession of the ball to the non-violating team at the division line (you "buy" a time-out for a technical).

4. Games that end in a tie during regular season will be recorded as such, NO overtime during regular season.

5. OVERTIME: During the tournament if a game ends in a tie then overtime periods will be played. A new jumpball will take place. Overtime will be 5 minutes in length, running time. The clock will stop in the last 2 minutes for fouls, and out-of bounds, as well as time-outs, injuries, and protests. Overtime periods shall be repeated until a winner is determined. Also, each team will be given one additional time-out.

6. MERCY RULE: If a team is ahead by 25 or more points (Coed included) at the two minute mark in the last half, or sometime after, the game shall end by Mercy Rule.

RULE III - PLAYERS
1. A team shall play with five players. A co-ed team must play with two players of one sex and three of the other. Men and Women teams may start with as few as four players. Co-Ed teams must have at least two players of each sex on the court at any given time, but never one more of either sex.

2. All players must sign in with the officials prior to playing. Late players may be added to the scoresheet at anytime; although a new player will have to wait for a dead ball situation to enter the game. Any player who enters the game without checking in will be assessed a technical foul.

3. Substitutions have to wait until a dead ball and may enter the game ONLY after the official "beckons" them in. NO substitutions may be made "on the fly," if so a technical foul shall be called.

4. Participants must wear basketball or tennis shoes and gym clothes - jogging shoes or shoes that mark the floor will not be permitted. All players are encouraged to carry in gym shoes to be worn during play. Players wearing any kind of gym shoe causing marking problems will be asked to leave the facility, and clean or replace their shoes.

5. PLAYERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR JEWELRY. (EYEBROW RINGS, WATCHES, BRACLETS, NECKLACES, EARRINGS, ETC.) COVERING THE ITEM WITH TAPE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AS IT DOES NOT PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY.

6. All players must have a visible number on their shirt. If teams do not have numbers the Intramural Sports program will provide, on loan, numbered pennies that MUST be worn. Teams or players with no numbers will not be permitted to participate.


RULE IV - PLAYING RULES

1. Five second rule (close guarding player with ball) will be in affect.

2. The alternate possession rule will be used.

3. Three (3) point shots will be used for intramural play.

4. Dunking will be allowing but if there is hanging on the rim it will be a technical foul unless to prevent injury.

5. Intentional and technical fouls will result in 2 free throws for the non-violating team, plus possession

6. Fouls occurring when a player attempts to gain an advantage offensively or defensively.
a) Illegal use of hands, arms, legs, feet, and/or torso.
b) Pushing, holding, grabbing, and/or hooking an opponent.

7. A player must leave the game upon her/his fifth personal foul. Technical and player control fouls will be counted as personal fouls and as team fouls. After two technical fouls a player is automatically ejected
a) A one-and-one bonus shot begins on the seventh team foul.
b) Two shot bonus will begin on the tenth foul.
c) No foul shots for player control fouls.

8. The official, scorekeeper, and/or supervisor has the discretion to penalize any individual for unsportsmanlike conduct. A technical foul may be assessed followed by a possible ejection.

9. The scorekeepers record is official.

10. FOUL SHOTS: No player may move into the restricted area (the key) until the ball hits the rim. Players outside the lane area may not cross the foul line extended nor the three-point arch until the ball hits the rim.

11. Co-Rec. Scoring: Men's field goals are worth 2 points each and women's are worth 3 points. Men's three point shots are worth 3 points each while women's are worth 4 points.

RULE VI - PENALTIES FOR FOULS

¢ Missed basket = 2 shots awarded
¢ Missed basket by a woman = 3 shots (Coed Only)
¢ Made basket = 1 shot awarded
¢ Missed 3-point = 3 shots awarded
¢ Missed 3-point by a woman = 4 shots awarded (Coed Only)
¢ Made 3-point = 1 shot awarded
¢ Before 7th team foul = award possession of ball at nearest spot
¢ On or after 7th team foul = bonus 1 + 1 award
¢ On or after 10th team foul = 2 free throws
¢ Intentional fouls = 2 shots and possession at spot of foul
¢ Technical fouls = 2 shots and possession at half court

YELLOW / RED CARD SYSTEM
This system will be used to control player, coach, and bench personnel in regards to unsportsmanlike conduct, rough play, and improper behavior.

1. When cautioning a player, coach, bench, or other personnel, an official OR supervisor shall display a yellow card and indicate the person concerned. Please note that in some cases an actual yellow or red card may not be physically displayed, rather a verbal indication given concerning the card given.
2. A player receiving a yellow card will be removed from the game and replaced with a legal available player for one play.
3. If the original player refuses to leave the filed/court, then the official OR supervisor may issue a red card and eject the player from the game.
4. If after the red card has been displayed and the player still has refused to leave the field/court, then the team may forfeit the contest.

Any second yellow card displayed on the same player in the same game will be equivalent to a red card. Whenever a red card is given it is an automatic ejection
