RULES/GUIDELINES
PLAYERS:
a) A team will consist of four (4) players.
b) A team may start and play a game with as few as three (3) players.
c) All players must present a valid Millsaps ID prior to each contest.
d) The server cannot spike or block. This does not apply if the team is
reduced to playing with three players.
FORFEITS:
Forfeit time is the scheduled starting time of the contest. A team must
be present and be ready to play at game time to avoid a forfeit.
EQUIPMENT:
Athletic attire required
" Court shoes, tennis shoes, sneakers are required (hiking boots
are not court shoes).
" No dress shirts or long (jeans or dress) pants are allowed.
" Participants must remove all jewelry prior to competing.
" The Intramural Office will provide a game ball for each contest.
PLAY:
a) A match shall consist of the best two out of three games to 15.
b) Old volleyball scoring is in effect. A team may only receive a point
on their serve.
c) Serving the ball
" The serving player may serve the ball from anywhere along the back
of the court.
" The serve is good if the ball passes over the net without touching
a member of the serving team or net.
" A served ball may contact only one wall before landing in the opponent's
court.
" It is illegal to attack or block a serve
d) Playing the ball
" Each team is allowed up to three successive contacts with the ball
in order to play the ball over the net. The ball striking the wall does
not count as a contact.
" If the ball crosses the net after touching 2 or more walls without
making contact with a player it is a side our or point.
" The back wall is in play only on the side of the team that is returning
the serve, spike, or volley provided a player on that team touches the
ball first.
" If a player contacts the ball in such a manner that the ball deflects
off the back wall on his/her side of court and goes over the net, the
ball shall be considered good, as long as it does not strike a second
wall.
" The ceiling is in bounds only on the side of the team that is returning
the serve or volley, provided a player on that team touches the ball first.
PLAYER CONDUCT:
a) Team captains are responsible for the conduct of their players and
fans.
b) Only the captain should address the supervisor.
c) Acts of unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and teams may
be dropped from the tournament for violation of the sportsmanship rating
system
***The Intramural Office Reserves the right to put into effect any new
ruling regarding Intramural policies and unsportsmanlike conduct.
