is the most common way Graduate Students check their Millsaps College
email. At the log on screen users are presented with options
concerning Client and Security. The Client option will only be seen
in Internet Explorer (IE) versions 6 and 7. The Client option allows
the user to choose between Premium and Basic version of Microsoft
Web Access. The Premium version is the default setting in IE6 and
IE7 allowing the user to access all features of Microsoft Web Access.
The Basic version provides fewer features but faster performance.
Security is divided into Public and Private. The Public setting will
automatically log you off after 5 minutes of inactivity and should
be chosen when logging on to a public computer. The Private
setting does not automatically log you off or reauthenticate you
for a 24 hour period.

are a good way to send and recieve email and gain added features if the client is
setup properly. Most clients offer two options a combanation of SMTP and POP or
SMTP and IMAP.
The most common mistake when setting up POP (3) and SMTP configuration is understanding where the emails
actually live, our email server vs. your computer. The default setting for POP in most clients is to
retrieve all messages. Once the email client is opened it begins to retrieve all messages from the mail
server sending them to your local machine, removing the messages from the server. This means that Outlook
Web Access will not show the same messages that your email client does and makes it virtually impossible
for you to email yourself a document to retrieve from another location. Please take the time to look for
the option to "leave mail on server". This option allows you to retrieve email messages but does not
remove the messages from the server. Remember that your mailbox has a size quota so leaving messages on the
server means that you will need to be sure that messages are being deleted from the server when you are
deleting them from your email client.
To set up your email client you to use SMTP and POP you will need both the SMTP and POP
sever name. The POP sever name is , this is the server
that you receive mail from. The SMTP server name will be provided by your ISP (Internet
Service Provider). If you're on campus and connected to Major Air, the SMTP server name is smtp.millsaps.edu. If you have any questions please contact

The most common mistake when setting up IMAP and SMTP configuration is that the messages are stored in two
places our email server and your local computer. This means that it is convenient for you access your email
through your email client or Outlook Web Access. Unfortunately this also means that email and quota
management becomes a larger responsibility. You will need to verify that messages deleted form your local
computer is also deleted from the server. Since your mailbox has a size quota leaving messages on the
server means that you may exceed your quota faster. Once your quota is met you will no longer be able to
send or receive email.
To set up your email client to use SMTP and IMAP you will need both the SMTP and IMAP sever name. The
IMAP sever name is ; this is the server that you receive mail from. The
SMTP server name will be provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If you're on campus and connected to Major Air, the SMTP server name is smtp.millsaps.edu. If you have any questions please
