- This section provides additional tips to get the search results you want. Perhaps you need to search for several subjects, or you want to find a course but aren't sure which subject to search for. The following information will guide you to better results while reducing the time you spend searching for courses.

||  Using MajorAccess  ||   Support  ||   Search Tips  ||

1. Click the button on the main page of Major Access.

2. Click the drop down arrow for "Term" and select a term OR enter Start & End dates. You cannot do both. Selecting "Term" from the drop down menu is the preferred method for better results.

3. All other fields are optional. For this example, select a subject from the "Subjects" drop down box.

4. Once you've specified your search criteria, click the button at the bottom of the page.

Couses matching your selection criteria will display on the results screen.

5. Click the link for "Section Name" to get additional information about the course.

You may select more than one subject at a time in your search. Both subjects will show on the results screen. You may search by Course Levels, Course Number or Section but they are not required.

You could narrow your search by searching for Computer Science courses held on Tuesdays after 3:00 P.M. So that you don't exclude a course you would consider, say a course that starts at 2:45, you could search for Computer Science courses using the "Subjects" drop down box and if day & time are available, they will show on the results screen.

In the example below, if you specified a day or time, the following course would not have shown up in your results because the day and time have not been announced. Don't limit your results by making too many selections.

Another example would be to search "French" and  also the Course Level "Sophomore". This returns only two results. Searching for French without the Course Level restriction returns 8 results. Don't limit your results by making too many selections.

When you finish viewing your results and click "OK" you are taken back to the main screen and have to start over with a new search. Rather than click "OK", and then clicking from the main screen again, just click your browsers back button from the results page. This takes you back to the search page and you can start a new search without going through the main screen again.
If you made specific selections such as courses on Tuesdays you'll need to clear any selections that don't apply before clicking "Submit" on the next search.

If you're looking for a writing course but aren't sure about the subject, you could select a term, and then key in "writ" in the "Keyword" field at the bottom of the page.

Leave all other fields blank. The results page displays writing courses from the English and Writing subjects.

Note the course name for the first and second courses listed below. We entered "writ" in the "Keyword" field. Had we entered "writing" instead of "writ" the search would have omitted both of the English courses because "writing" is not in the title.
