  • Emergency - 1234
  • Campus calls - dial the last 4 digits of the phone number you wish to call
  • Local calls - Dial 9 + the area code (601) + the seven digit phone number
  • Toll free calls - dial 9 + 1+ the toll free number. (Toll free numbers begin with 800, 888, 877, 866, 855)
  • Collect Calls - Use a collect service such as AT&T (9 + 1-800-CALLATT)
  • Calling Card Calls - Follow the instructions on the back of the card
- The most popular features available on campus; everything you need to master using them. This section is one you won't want to miss.

  • Call Waiting: When you receive a 2nd incoming call while on your line, you will hear a beep. Press the switch-hook to answer the 2nd call. You can press the switch-hook again to toggle between the two calls.

  • Three way calling: Place your first call. Press the switch-hook, which will put the first caller on hold. WHen you hear the dial-tone, dial the 2nd call. Press the switch-hook again, and a 3-way call will take place.
    - If the 2nd party's line is busy or they do not answer, press the switch-hook twice to get the first party back on the line.

  • Call Block: (You may have one blocked call per line)
    - After hanging up from the unwanted call, lift the handset and dial *11.
    - To cancel Call Block, dial #11
    - If a call is transferred to youy, and you choose to use Call Block, the extension that transferred the call will be restricted.

  • Caller ID: Single line (number only) caller ID displays in one of two ways:
    1. On a display unit which attaches to your telephone.
    2. On a telephone display which is compatible with Caller ID Display.

- The laws of the state of Mississippi provide that it is unlawful for any person or persons to make any comment, request, suggestion, or proposal over a telephone which is obscene, lewd, or lascivious with intent to abuse, threaten, or harass any party at the called number.

To make a telephone call whether or not conversation ensues, without disclosing one's identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person at the called number is also unlawful. Interstate calls of this nature are a violation of Feder al Law (Title 18 US code).
  1. Hang up at the first obscene word or if the caller doesn't say anything the second time you say hello.
  2. Do not give any personal information, such as your name and address until the caller has been identified.
  3. If calls persist, keep a log of harassing or annoying calls by documenting: phone number (if displayed on caller ID), date and time of call, name of person calling (if known), and the nature of the call.
  4. If you feel that you are in physical danger, contact Millsaps Campus Safety immediately at 601-974-1234.
  5. If calls persist, the Associate Dean for Students or the Director of Campus Safety may request the the assistance of the Office of Computing and Telecommunications in identifying the caller. Information about the identity of the caller will be released only to the Associate Dean of Students and/or the Director of Campus Safety. Prosecution or other disciplinary actions taken will be at the discretion of the Director of Campus Safety and /or the Associate Dean of Students.


Initial reports of annoyance calls should be made to either the Associate Dean for Students at 601-974-1200 or the Director of Campus Safety at 601-974-1182.
