Fall semester is already over and I can hardly believe it! I’m half-way done with my junior year and freshman move-in day seems like yesterday. This semesterhas been by far the most challenging for me, but definitely the most rewarding.
All summer long three other students and myself rehearsed for the operetta that we began the semester with, The Old Maid and the Thief. It was an amazing experience! We all learned so much and had a great time putting it together. It really helped me realize that I do want to pursue vocal performance in graduate school and maybe one day become a professional performer. It’s been a decision that I have been struggling with, but I’ve decided it’s something I’m passionate enough about to pursue.
Being my junior year, almost all of my classes were specific to my major and I loved every (well, almost, so music theory really isn’t my thing) second of it. Who knew I would enjoy conducting so much or that music history was that interesting? We put on two great Singers concerts and performed at the Advent and Lessons service, which is one of my favorite events every year. It is always so beautiful and well attended by the students. We also found out for certain that Chamber Singers will be traveling to New York City for Spring Break! We will sing at different churches in New York and at Columbia. I know it will be a memorable trip.
I can’t wait for spring semester! It should be just as busy as the fall with our Chamber Singers trip, upcoming auditions for the musical the Millsaps Players will perform, and my 30-minute junior recital I have to put together. Things seem to never really stop, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
