January 3, 2007

Well, the last few weeks of school before Winter Break were surely full. The programming committee had tons of stuff to do around campus between studying and class. A massage chair, a comedian, professional massage therapists, a stress-free zone, how fun. My classes all finished off well, and my professors gave us a lot of chances to get ahead in studying and preparing for final papers, etc. Office hours were definitely helpful to me in knowing what to expect and how to prepare.

One thing that helped me out during finals week were study groups. A few people from my English class all got together in a study room in the library a couple of times before the final exam. We pulled out all our old tests and assignments, text books and binders. Then we went through all the material, trying to remember the little details and main ideas of each work we read. We also remembered all the funny things that our professor and classmates said during class, and the comic and satirical works of some of the writers we read. We made up some crazy ways to remember dates and authors and laughed quite a bit. I feel like studying (as dull as I sometimes think it will be) was actually fun this time. I really got to know the people in my class that I hadn't been able to talk with much during class. And all this studying, remembering, and laughing paid off. The final wasn't as bad as we all expected. Good grades were not all we got from having to study for this final. We gained a few friendships, too.

The holiday spirit was all over campus before Winter Break. We had a beautiful chapel service with the Millsaps Singers. The auditorium was packed with students, professors, and local Jacksonians, and we all got candles that were lit at the end of the service. Girls on my hall decorated their rooms with green and red and decorated their doors by wrapping them up like presents. How fun! Walking down the hall was definitely enjoyable that week, seeing all the decorations and girls before we went home.

The holidays have been great. Having an entire month off for the Winter Break is a nice benefit of a semester schedule. I got to spend tons of time with my family and old friends. But I'm ready to get back to school and see everyone there again. Classes should be good this semester, too.

Until next time,
