Portrayed by Jon Hamm in the Disney movie, "Million Dollar Arm," Bernstein is one of the most respected marketing experts in the world of sports. He will speak about “Million Dollar Arm: Where’s Your Big Idea?”
Inspired by the wave of success reality television shows were having in the United States and the global phenomena that Yao Ming created while playing in the NBA, Bernstein traveled to India with a goal to find the first Indian born player in professional baseball history. Using the reality television model in India, Bernstein created a contest that would reward one lucky contestant with one million dollars and a chance to play for a professional baseball team.
Prior to his career in sports, Bernstein received his education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and the London School of Economics. He then spent time working as a brand manager for Proctor & Gamble where he helped increase demand and market share for a number of its product lines.
Always a passionate fan of sports, his career took a major shift when he took on the role of director of development for The Upper Deck Company where he successfully implemented a number of marketing initiatives and is widely known as one of the godfathers of milestone marketing, specifically for his work in creating record chasing campaigns for Wayne Gretzky and Dan Marino. As a sports marketing agent, Bernstein has represented some of the greatest athletes of all time, including Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and Barry Bonds and is responsible for several ground-breaking marketing campaigns with his clients.
