Demitrius “Demi” Brown is the new associate dean of intercultural affairs and community life at Millsaps College.
Brown leads the Millsaps College Intercultural Affairs and Services Office, including the international Student Advisement Office. He is in charge of the College’s Bias Response Team and chairs the Diversity Council. He is part of the African-American Student Advisory Circle and participates in the College’s Retention and Care Team, plus the Enrollment Management Committee.
“My goal is to help Millsaps become a truly inclusive campus community,” Brown said. “When our community is inclusive, all members of the community feel valued, respected, and supported. I want all of us to focus on the needs of every individual, ensuring the right conditions are in place for each person to achieve their full potential.”
Brown is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a B.A. in history and an M.S. in counselor education with an emphasis in student affairs.
He worked as the associate dean of students and director of student life at Amherst College in Massachusetts from October 2014 through August 2016. Before that, he was executive director of housing and residential education at the University of Denver.
Brown’s career has also taken him to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was assistant director of residential life and then assistant dean of students. He has also worked as residence life coordinator at Florida International University and as residence coordinator at Florida State University.
