Dr. Brit Katz, vice president of student life and dean of students at Millsaps College, is the new chair of the NCAA Division III Management Council. He will begin his term of office in January.
“I am humbled by the honor assigned to me by my Council colleagues,” Katz said. “It is gratifying to see ‘Millsaps College’ appear in our work with the NCAA, all of which is focused upon the education and graduation of the nation’s Division III student-athletes.”
He is the first college or university vice president to hold the office. Katz is the outgoing Division III national convention planning committee chair. He is a presenter at the NCAA Athletics Direct Reports Institute at the national convention.
The Management Council has 19 members, comprised of Division III chief executive officers, faculty athletics representatives, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, conference representatives, and student-athletes representing more than 450 institutions of higher learning.
The Management Council handles the implementation of policies adopted by the association’s Board of Governors and Division III Presidents Council. The Management Council may sponsor legislative proposals, make interpretations of Division III’s bylaws, and may also handle resolution of Division III issues and recommendations from other committees and working groups throughout the Division’s substructure.
The Management Council meets on a quarterly basis during the second week of January at the NCAA Convention, in mid-April, mid-July, and mid-October. The April, July, and October meetings are held at the National Office in Indianapolis, while the January meeting is held in conjunction with the NCAA Convention.
