Millsaps College senior Chandler Loy sent out dozens of applications for internships to banks in New York City and his persistence paid off: Citibank selected him as a summer intern.
The Memphis native is working with Citibank’s treasury and trade solutions branch and will be part of the North American trade sales team for ten weeks. Loy will assist the team in selling numerous services that focus on improving a client's working capital and liquidity, with the main service being supply chain finance.
A double economics and business administration major, Loy plans to pursue a career in finance after graduating in May 2017.
Loy, who is president of Millsaps Financial Management Association National Honor Society, said he is meeting and forming connections with people from all over the world.
“In my first week here, I met people from Venezuela, Colombia, Poland, Canada, and India, just to name a few,” he said. “Their stories are incredible, and it just gives you a different perspective on things.”
Loy credits Dr. Walter Neely, a Millsaps College finance professor, with assisting and encouraging him throughout the application process for the internship. The application and interview process included two rounds of phone interviews and an in-person interview at the bank’s New York City office.
“Dr. Neely got me in touch with several Millsaps alumni who helped me prepare for the interviews,” Loy said. “They were all eager to help, and I’m very thankful for everyone who helped me. I’m lucky to have this opportunity. So many people have helped me through this whole process, and I don’t take that for granted.”
