Millsaps College recognized two new members of the Millsaps Founders Society at its Founders Day dinner on Thursday, February 16. The Founders Society is made up of donors who have given $1 million or more in lifetime gifts to the College.

Dr. Richard M. Blount, a 1954 graduate of Millsaps and longtime Jackson area ophthalmologist, and his wife Martha, have been loyal contributors to Millsaps for the past 35 years. Their recent unrestricted gift of an irrevocable $1 million charitable trust qualifies them for Founders Society membership.

“Martha and Dick Blount’s service to others has profoundly impacted every community they have touched, including the Millsaps community,” said Dr. Robert W. Pearigen, president of Millsaps College. “The College is extremely fortunate that Martha and Dick have made Millsaps the beneficiary of this very generous gift.”

Mike McRee is the parent of 1992 Millsaps graduate Annie L. McRee. He is a member of the Millsaps Board of Trustees, and has supported Millsaps for more than 30 years with gifts to the College.

“I am grateful for the consistent generosity that Mike has shown to Millsaps over the years,” Pearigen said. “He appreciates the transformative power of this institution, and has played a major role in ensuring it stays strong for years to come.”
