Jim Burke has joined Millsaps College as the executive director of development, beginning July 1. He will aid the College in fundraising and oversee the Millsaps Annual Fund and Planned Giving programs.
“I am an advocate for our alumni and parents, and want to help them to make the most significant impact they can on Millsaps College through their philanthropy for the institution,” said Burke.
Burke comes to Millsaps from Georgia State University, where he served as senior director of development for the Honors College. He previously served as the annual fund director at Marist School, a private secondary school in Atlanta.
“I came to Millsaps College because I felt it was a mesh between the work I had done at Marist and the Georgia State Honors College,” said Burke. “I am a proponent of the liberal arts education and a believer in the ‘honors’ type of experience which challenges and prepares the student for a life beyond college.”
Burke earned his bachelor’s in political science with a minor in economics at the University of North Georgia. He served in the Georgia Army National Guard as a tank commander during Operation Desert Storm. An Eagle Scout, he began his professional career as field director of the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Burke is an avid runner, cyclist, golfer, hiker, and a self-described “huge Disney fan.” He and his wife Connie have four children.
