Millsaps College Welcomes Six New Trustees

Millsaps College recently welcomed six new members of the Board of Trustees. Pictured above are (left to right) Dr. Robert W. Holly Powell Lange, B.A. 1991, is a professional event planner, fundraiser, community volunteer, and executive director of the Mississippi Book Festival. She is also a long-time volunteer for the Metro Jackson Alumni Chapter. She and her husband, Alan Lange, B.A. 1993 and M.B.A. 1996 were recipients of the Jim Livesay Service Award in 2017. They are parents of two sons, Ford Lange and Jake Lange.

David Marsh III, B.A. 1973, is president and owner of Benchmark Construction Corporation, a general contracting firm specializing in commercial construction and renovation. He is a member of the Else School of Management Advisory Board, a past president of the Millsaps Alumni Council, and has served on the Parents Council. He was inducted into the Millsaps Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and received the Jim Livesay Service Award in 1999. He and his wife, Patsy Pharr Marsh, B.A. 1976, are the parents of two children, Anna Katherine Marsh Selby, a 2006 graduate of Millsaps, and Max David Marsh.

Amanda Sanders Turner, B.A. 1993, a former attorney, is a community volunteer and philanthropist. She earned a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law. She has served on the Board of Visitors for Millsaps College, and as a host and volunteer for Millsaps alumni events in the Delta area of Mississippi. She and her husband, James E. “Jed” Turner III, B.A. 1994, are the parents of two children, Mary Michael Turner and Martin Turner.

Chris Cheek, B.B.A. 1985 and M.B.A. 1988, is president and chief operating officer at SentryCare, an owner, developer, and operator of assisted living, nursing home, memory care, and rehabilitation properties, operating with the Eden Alternative methods of geriatric care. He is a past president of the Millsaps College Alumni Association and the 2016 recipient of the Jim Livesay Service Award given by the College. Chris is married to Patricia T. Cheek, and is the father of two children, Collin Rogers Cheek, a 2014 graduate of Millsaps, and Taylor Marie Cheek.

Penny Sanders Varner, B.A. 1967, is a retired teacher. She is a former member of the Millsaps College Parents Council, the Millsaps College Volunteer Admissions Network, and the Millsaps Alumni Board. She received the Jim Livesay Service Award in 1996. She and her husband, John Mack Varner, B.A. 1967, are the parents of two daughters, Betsy Varner McIntire, a 1993 graduate of Millsaps, and Emily Sanders Varner Shelton, a 1996 graduate of Millsaps.

Steve Sansom, B.B.A. 1991, is co-founder, chairman, and senior managing director of Green Square Capital LLC (Memphis), a private wealth management firm. He is also the chairman, CEO, and founder of Worthington Capital Management (Memphis), a mutual fund and asset management firm. He and his wife, Paula Whittington Sansom, have two sons, Whit Sansom and Alex Sansom.
