The season of fall brings one of Millsaps' greatest traditions: Homecoming. This year's Homecoming is scheduled October 28-30, and is packed with events full of Major spirit.

"There's a lot of energy around Homecoming weekend," said Maribeth Wann, director of Alumni and Parent Relations. "Homecoming weekend is built around the game, but it is an opportunity to see faculty, students and other alums. Parents are invited so it becomes Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend all in one."

Homecoming weekend will kick off Oct. 28 with celebratory events on and off campus. The 14th annual Mary Ann Edge Golf Tournament is scheduled at 1 p.m. at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison.

Edge, a native of Amory, was a pioneer in golfing circles in Mississippi and throughout the region. She coached the Millsaps Majors Men's Golf Team for 28 years, and in 1993, the year she retired, she coached the Majors to the Southeastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

The tournament will benefit the Millsaps Athletic Department, said Jim Page, associate athletic director. Teams should register by Oct. 24, but entries will be accepted until the tournament date, if space is available. First place will take home eight BCS National Championship tickets and second place will win four Allstate Sugar Bowl tickets. For more information, contact Page at jim.page@millsaps.edu.

All alumni are members of the Alumni Association and are welcome to attend the Alumni Association meeting in Olin Hall Room 100 on Oct. 28 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Dr. Rob Pearigen, president of the College, will welcome association members. Afterward, all alumni are also invited to the welcome reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Olin Hall lobby.

Members of Pi Kappa Alpha have scheduled the inaugural Pi Kappa Alpha 5K, benefitting the Fortenberry Scholarship, on Oct. 29. The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Don Fortenberry, Millsaps College chaplain for more than 30 years. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. at the Hall Activities Center and take participants on a route through the Belhaven neighborhood. For more information, visit www.millsapspikes.org.

Homecoming football game festivities will begin at 9 a.m., with the "Welcome Home" Alumni Tent in the plaza. Stop by to get a Homecoming schedule, campus map and Millsaps giveaways.

At 11 a.m., the second annual "Tasting at the Tents," a culinary competition between student organizations, will begin in the plaza. The Homecoming Pep Rally will also take place in the plaza from noon until 12:30 p.m. and will feature the Millsaps cheerleaders.

The Homecoming game atmosphere will be family friendly with lots of events and children's activities, Wann said.

Tailgating for the Homecoming game will begin at noon on the English House lawn, and all are invited to stay and watch the game. There will be tents from the Else School, the Alumni Association and Senior Year Experience. Alumni and families are invited to picnic on the lawn.

The Majors will battle Centre College at 1 p.m. at Harper Davis Field. Tickets to the game are $10 for general admission tickets and no reserved seats will be sold. Children 6 and under get in free.

Alumni reunion parties will begin at 6 p.m. at the University Club in downtown Jackson. Thealumni classes that will be celebrated are the classes of 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. Five-year reunions were implemented this year so that alumni get together more often, said Wann.

All alumni parties will be held at the University Club, and there will be an all-alumni party at 8 p.m. in the main hall of the club,  Wann said.
"With a party for all alumni, you get to see everyone you know," said Wann. "You're not just friends with people in your class, but you're friends with people in all classes when you're at Millsaps."

The cost of attending the alumni party is $30. To register, visit https://secure.millsaps.edu/alumni/homecoming_registration_reunion_classes.html.

At 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, Delta Delta Delta will host Delta Underground in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall. Delta Underground is a campus-wide talent show to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
