Millsaps College is the top-ranked liberal arts college in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Arkansas according to U.S. News & World Report's 2012 America's Best Colleges issue, on newsstands Sept. 20.
Overall, Millsaps ranked No. 85 on the list that includes 252 national liberal arts colleges.
"National rankings, of course, cannot convey the full story of any college or university, but we are always pleased when others recognize the outstanding value of a Millsaps education," said College President Dr. Robert Pearigen.
"I am very grateful of the valuable support of the entire faculty and staff at Millsaps College who work hard to ensure we thrive as a community of scholars pursuing excellence for, and along with, our students."
The magazine also named Millsaps to the list of "High School Counselors' Picks" for the second consecutive year.
U.S. News & World Report ranks both national and regional colleges in its annual review. The schools characterized as national liberal arts colleges draw students from across the nation, emphasize undergraduate education, and award at least half their degrees in the arts and sciences, which include such disciplines as English, the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, history, political science, foreign languages and the visual and performing arts, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Other recent college guides that have selected or ranked Millsaps College include: The Princeton Review's The Best 376 Colleges including two special Top 20 recognitions for Professors Get High Marks (No. 8) and Town-Gown Relations Are Great (No. 19); America's Best Colleges 2011 by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity; and Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012 named Millsaps a "Best Buy" based on the quality of the College's academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.
