Millsaps Announces Appointment of New Vice President of Institutional Advancement


After a comprehensive national search, Michael V. Hutchison has been appointed the new vice president of institutional advancement at Millsaps College. Hutchison will serve in a senior leadership position on the executive staff of the college and will oversee the various programs and initiatives of the office of institutional advancement. His appointment will begin in early October.

For the last five years, Hutchison has worked as associate vice president for development at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Through his leadership of Hendrix's annual, major and planned gifts programs and corporate and foundation relations programs, he played a critical role in the college's successful $100 million campaign, including some of the largest gifts raised in the last 10 years.

Among his many fundraising accomplishments at Hendrix are:

  • Securing $6 million for endowed Odyssey Professorships (twelve $500,000 endowments)
  • Securing $6 million in gifts toward the Odyssey Program endowment
  • Securing capital gifts to complete the new $26 million Student Life and Technology Center

During his career, Mike has worked at all levels of development. Prior to Hendrix, Mike served as director of major and planned gifts at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he also helped successfully complete a $120 million campaign.

Mike is an active member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), serving as a District IV board member and program chair for the 2013 conference. He is also a member of the Conway Public School Foundation Board.

Hutchison earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from McMurry College in 1987 and a Master of Education/Educational Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1994.

He and his wife Monica, an elementary school music teacher, have twin daughters, Hannah and Maggie. The Hutchisons are active members of First United Methodist Church of Conway, where Mike has served on the endowment and evangelism committees.

Mike's appointment will begin in early October.
