Chamber Music Day Camp
For String, Piano and Voice Students
The Summer Chamber Music Camp is a week-long day camp designed for young musicians to help them discover the pleasures of performing chamber music with other young musicians who have similar interests. Under the instruction of Millsaps College faculty members, students will be able to observe the art and intimacy of musical dialogue in the chamber setting. Coaching, musical theory and history classes, faculty recitals and the opportunity to perform are all part of this popular summer program.

Cheer Dance Basics
Are. You. READY? OK! Bring lots of energy to this one week camp and learn the fundamentals of cheerleading, pom squad dance, cheers, and chants. This camp is the perfect jumping off place for beginners, but it is also ideal for recreational and school cheerleaders who are interested in increasing their dance skills with jazz and hip hop dance techniques.

Be a Nature Detective
Magnify a sweet gum ball and what do you see? Baby birds’ beaks chirping? In this camp you’ll get up close and personal with worms, insects, seashells, bird feathers, flowers, and more. Indoors and outdoors, we will study nature using a jeweler’s loupe and The Private Eye® program. In nature journals we will sketch, write and even draw our very own nature cartoon based on change of scale analogies. Campers will collect specimens for their Private Eye® museum to keep and bring home.

Acting Up
Acting is more than learning lines and wearing costumes—it’s using your whole self to tell stories, working as a team and having fun! This five day camp will include acting and improvisational games, an introduction to stage-fighting, creating skits, and more.

Elementary Entrepreneurs
In this three week series using the Mini-Society® teaching system, you'll apply concepts and skills in multiple subject areas to develop and experience your own mini-business. Discover the importance of cooperation, marshal creative and analytical resources, practice setting and achieving financial goals, experience a sense of empowerment and self-sufficiency, and have lots of fun learning how to make money!

Adventures in Art
Did you know that the Chinese used papier-mâché to make helmets; that samples of embroidery have been found in Egyptian tombs, on ancient costumes of the Maori, and on medieval church garments; or that by manipulating lines and angles of geometry using string you can create a beautiful work of art? In this nine day camp, you’ll make a papier-mâché mask using ancient techniques and create one-of-a-kind needlepoint and string art designs so intriguing you’ll never even notice the math!

Character Animation Workshop
How did Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry become movie stars? In this fascinating workshop you’ll hear the stories and learn the techniques of cartoon animation. Then you’ll literally put in motion these principles when you try your hand at character design, developing a storyboard, forming the soundtrack and the basic movements that will allow you to bring to life your own cartoon creation.

Summer Guitar Workshop
In this workshop you’ll learn basic note reading, how to strum chords, and other acoustic guitar fundamentals. Students will learn how to play songs in both solo and group settings. This class is offered for beginners only.

Digital Photography
Learn the art and technology behind digital photography. During the four day workshop you’ll learn the ins and outs of your camera and how to take the best possible picture from start-to-finish. The workshop will cover exposure, composition and lighting, plus how to print, save, email and enhance your pictures. Students will need a digital camera.

Introduction to 3D Computer Modeling and Interactive Worlds
The first week of this two week computer workshop focuses first on how to construct 3D model houses and buildings using Google’s SketchUp and then how to add texture to your 3D constructions using Paint Shop Pro.
The second week, you’ll use easy-to-write notations to compose a virtual 3D village; draw pictures to represent trees, people or animals to populate your village; and bring your world to life by describing behaviors for your virtual people and animals. These written descriptions will be processed by Java software written by Millsaps students and the instructor to produce an interactive walk-through of your world and its virtual inhabitants.

Writing in College
The best way to have success when you write for your college professors and then later in your career is to begin now. In this two day workshop, you will look at how writing in college might differ from what you expect and what you might do now to prepare. You'll learn strategies for writing, revision, writing for exams, and writing for varying audiences in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

MathFest 2009
Come to this summer's MathFest and work on your algebra skills in preparation for the AP calculus exam and further concentrate on algebra for the AP statistics exam. Brush up your math skills with fun and challenging activities! The teacher will incorporate real-life applications that use the graphing calculator and will emphasize functions from both algebraic and graphical perspectives. The students will work actual AP exam questions and learn test-taking techniques.
