Millsaps Seniors Present Gallery Talks

(04/15/08)

Gallery talks by Millsaps seniors Michelle Allen, Alyce Howe, Mathew Puckett and Petra Vackova will be held in the Lewis Art Gallery at Millsaps College on Monday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m. For more information contact Emmie King at 601-212-9622 or kingel@millsaps.edu.

The students’ work will be on display as part of the Senior Studio Art Exhibition at the Lewis Art Gallery through Sunday, May 11. The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Every Millsaps studio art major develops a cohesive body of work for public exhibition, as well as supporting documentation that both investigates and augments the work for exhibition. The project includes a paper, a gallery talk and an oral examination with a committee formed of the art department faculty.

Brandon native Michelle Allen used oil and acrylic paint on canvas to explore her theme “My Iguanas and Me.”

Alyce Howe of Baton Rouge used mixed media and installation to explore gender roles in children’s toys and links between these roles and adult life.

Mathew Puckett of Jackson used oils to demonstrate the relationship between people and their environment.

Vackova is from the Czech Republic. She used mixed media based in drawing to examine foreign issues with an emphasis on emaciated children of Sub-Saharan Africa and the hunger problem.
