Janice Fehlauer, who recently won the gold medal at Shreveport’s prestigious Nena Wideman Piano Competition, will play at Millsaps College on Friday, February 29, as part of the Bell Piano Series. The concert will take place in the Ford Academic Complex Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, which are available at the door or by calling 601-974-1422, are $15 general admission and $5 for students with ID. For more information, contact Linda Nix at 601-974-1422 or at nixls@millsaps.edu.
Since coming to Texas in 2005, Canadian pianist Fehlauer has become known for her innovative programming and diverse musical interests. Janice was the winner of the University of North Texas Concerto Competition, and was voted Most Outstanding Graduate Piano Student by the UNT faculty in 2006.
Fehlauer holds an associate diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in both piano and violin, and a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of British Columbia. She is currently a graduate student at UNT, where she studies with Pamela Mia Paul.
Her gold medal in the Wideman Competition entitles Fehlauer to a professional performance as a soloist in a concerto with the Shreveport Symphony and a contract to appear in the Millsaps College Bell Piano Series. The Bell Piano Series is named for Estelle Bell—grandmother of former Millsaps Trustee John Palmer—for fostering an early love of music in young children. During his tenure on the College Board of Trustees, Palmer, later the U.S. ambassador to Portugal, established the Jonathan M. Sweat Music Endowment, which directly supports the series named for his grandmother.
