Forty Millsaps College students are participating in community service projects throughout the metro area June 16-20, 2008 as part of the Challenge program at the College.
Students will volunteer at locations that include Stewpot Community Services, Grace Place at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, Operation Shoestring, the North Midtown Community Development Corp., the Good Samaritan Center and the Alta Woods United Methodist Church Thrift Shop.
The Challenge program, which is hosted by the Campus Ministry Team at Millsaps, helps new students adjust to college life while they participate in and learn about the community service for which Millsaps College is known.
“The program introduces incoming student to their new peers, to living on campus and enjoying campus recreational activities, to a lot of what the city of Jackson has to offer and to community agencies that the college has ongoing relationships with,” said Lisa Garvin, Millsaps chaplain.
About 70 students will participate in a second session of Challenge that is scheduled June 30-July 2.
